COMING IN MAY:
Thursday, May 2: Our 2023 Silent Auction, led by FVRS First Vice President Carol Adams, was a huge success. Carol is hoping for a repeat this year! Look for items at home or while "out and about" errand running that would be great for the auction, which is our second major fundraiser this year for our 2024 Rose Show. Not sure about an item?... then contact Carol at 805-404-2011 with your questions. Also, think about asking friends or family if they might have items to donate or, if possible, consider asking a small business to donate a gift card, product or service to the auction. We're looking forward to a fun evening on May 2. Bring those friends and family mentioned above, too! Please deliver all donations to Carol by Sunday, April 21. THANK YOU!
ARRANGEMENT WORKSHOPS
The society is thrilled to, once again, provide Arrangement Workshops to its membership and the public this year. Arrangements Chair Julie Goggin held the first workshop of 2024 on Wednesday, January 31, at 2 p.m. We're grateful to FVRS member Kathy Fry who has offered her heated garage to host these workshops (13108 NE 22nd Street in Vancouver)!
A huge thanks to Julie for spearheading this renewed effort in our society to teach floral arrangements with our beloved roses. She has sparked the talent in many and given confidence to her workshop students, many of whom exhibited at the 2023 FVRS 68th Annual Rose Show and our In-House Rose Show last year in September.
All the spring workshops will be at 2 p.m. at the home of Kathy Fry (address above):

COMMUNITY PARK WORKDAYS
FVRS held its first workday of the year at the Esther Short Park Rose Garden on Friday, March 8. FVRS helps to maintain this community garden as well as the rose garden at the Covington House. We do this for the city for the enjoyment of its citizens. On March 8, we had 16 hardy gardeners pruning, weeding, raking and mulching the park garden in glorious sunshine. After several hours, our work at the downtown garden was done. Nine of the 16 gardeners then drove to the Covington House Rose Garden off of Main Street to give those roses their spring pruning and much-needed attention. There were several new folks from the public who stopped by the Esther Short Park Rose Garden to help and to learn pruning techniques from FVRS consulting rosarians Jim Swenson, Julie Goggin and Louis Rossetto.
The public is always welcomed at our workdays; the next to be announced soon. Just show up with your questions and pruners. YOU WILL LEARN ALOT about pruning if you participate in these workdays... don't miss this valuable learning experience! The next workday will be FRIDAY, MAY 17...MARK YOUR CALENDARS and SEE YOU THEN.
We thank ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS as many hands make light work!

On the day of the 2023 FVRS Rose Show, June 24th, the society provided a dedicated VISITOR 2023 FVRS Rose Show Book to all the visitors who arrived during our show hours of 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Exhibitors will find the printable EXHIBITOR 2023 FVRS Rose Show Book attached below. The 2023 book includes General Instructions for both the Horticulture and the Artistic Design sections of the show.
